The art of carpet making was brought to India by Persian artists. It was during Mughal emperor Akbar's reign (1556 - 1606) that the art of carpet making flourished. Hand-knotted carpets from India speak eloquently of the superb workmanship. Their designs and color schemes have their own unique magic. The art of weaving carpets has percolated through generations and the Indian craftsmen have been creating the greatest of specimen since the medieval period.
